NURTW lauds FG’s approval of N108bn road projects in 4 states

The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), in Adamawa has commended the Federal Government for approving N108 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of roads in four states including Adamawa.

Malam Umar Babba, the state Chairman of the union, made the commendation during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Yola.

NAN reports that the Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday approved N108 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of four road projects in Adamawa, Borno, Enugu and Rivers.

Babba said that the Numan road linking Borno and Adamawa, Gombi-Biu linking Adamawa and Borno, which were among the approved projects, had been in need of government attention for years.

“We appreciate the Federal Government’s decision for this approval; for long we have been facing a lot of challenges on these roads which has caused our members to lose money daily.

“Our drivers change shock-absorbers and brake pads monthly, but if the roads are completed they will last longer,” he said.

According to the NURTW chairman, when the roads are completed, it will improve the socioeconomic development of the states and the country at large.

He said that his members were excited over the news of the approval knowing the benefits the projects would confer when completed.

Babba said that when the roads were completed, the drivers instead of one trip daily would be able to make a maximum of three trips and their passengers would travel in comfort.(NAN)
