Member appeals for contractor to return to erosion site as flood kills 3 kids in Okpoko

The member representing Ogbaru One Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Sir. Benson Nwawulu, has appealed to Governor Willie Obiano, to direct back to site the Contracting Firm handling G.M.O-Ogbuagu-Mgbuka-Amaizu Road.
Sir Benson, who made the appeal during on Fridays plenary, lamented that three children lost their lives few days ago as a result of the deplorable condition of the area.
He lamented that if urgent steps were not taken to rehabilitate the road, it could cause more casualties.
He, however, commended the Governor’s wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, for empowering the downtrodden in Ihiala Local Government Area during her visit to the area.
Similarly, the member representing Orumba North Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Chief Romanus Obi, has urged Governor Obiano to direct the Contracting Firm in charge of Awgbu-Amaetiti-Ufuma- Ndiukwuenu-Awa Road back to site as the road has become impassable.
Meanwhile, concerned residents of Iyiowa Odekpe in Ogbaru Local Government Area have sent a save our soul message to Anambra State and Federal Governments as flood wrecks havoc in the area.
Several parts of the roads and streets in the area have been eroded by flood and thousands of people rendered homeless while socio-economic activities have been grounded.
Reacting to the situation, the President General Iyiowa Odekpe Town Union, Chief Agozie Okoye and the Odua of Odekpe, Chief Obiechina Oranye, expressed bitterness over the devastation of the area by flood, attributing it to lack of drainage channels that would have enhanced free flow of water when it rains.
They called on governments as well as philanthropists to intervene as the situation has gone beyond their control.
On his part, Honorable Ugochukwu Ugwueje, said several houses as well as government structures in the area have been affected.
Also speaking, a commuter and resident of the area, Chief Clifford Uduh, expressed sadness over the situation and called on the government for help and commended Governor Willie Obiano for his achievements so far.
Similarly, Chief Nwakaibeya Iduh, lamented that several efforts made by some concerned residents of the area to check incessant flood disaster in the area, have proved abortive thereby making life more difficult for the people.
In their separate speeches, Brother Ikechukwu Odoh, Mr Emeka Umeagbalasi, Mrs Ogoko Chidimma, as well as Mr Tochukwu Okeke, pointed out the gravity of the looming danger of the flood and threat to lives and businesses of the people in the area.
