Nsugbe community celebrates centenarians

It was a celebration of longevity at Nsugbe Community in Anambra East Council Area of Anambra State when Umuada Nsugbe Orula recognized women who are over one hundred years old in the ten villages that make up the Community with awards and carnival celebration.
The event which took place at Nsugbe Community Primary School 2 Field saw Umuada both married in and outside the Community in joyous mood as they trooped out enmass to celebrate and accord respect the elderly among them.
Addressing the gathering, the spiritual director of Umuada Nsugbe Orula, Reverend Sister Professor Uju Dibua said that women play important role in uniting the family, Community and the Nation.
Reverend Sister Prof Dibua represented by Lady Ann Ogugua applauded the convener Mrs. Eucharia Attah for such a bold step in channeling the minds of the women to issues that need urgent attention in the Community.
The Woman President General of Nsugbe Development Union, NDU, Lady Ngozi Emencheta expressed gladness for the turnout of Umuada despite their tight schedule saying that it will bring unity, oneness and progress in the Community.
For the Initiator of Umuada Nsugbe Jelumba, Mrs. Udekwesi Ubogu, Umuada group is one of the vanguards of socio cultural, economic, moral and general wellbeing of every community.
In their separate speeches, the Chairperson of the event, Mrs. Chitoo Osili and the Convener, Mrs. Eucharia Attah advocated equal attention to the girl child and for the community to stop relinquishing the Umuada at the background as their duties are enormous.
Speaking on behalf of all the heads of Umuada from all the villages, Mrs. Oliaku Dibua who is one hundred and five years old represented by her daughter, Lady Ann Ogugua ,thanked the organisers for the honour done them saying that the joy of the award has added meaningfully to their lives.
Health talk by Ebelechukwu Aguolu display of identity of the villages and their native foods as well as presentation of awards climaxed the event.
