Business mogul builds educational structure for University of Calabar

The Founder of KAM Holdings Ltd, Dr. Kamoru Ibitoye Yusuf has laid the foundation stone for construction of an edifice to be called as “KAM-Wire ODL Building” at the University of Calabar

Laying the foundation stone, the business mogul stated that erecting the structure for the institution was in his quest to meet up with the corporate social responsibility his organisation owed the society towards the advancement of the society.

The event held within the sprawling campus weekend amidst flurry of activities.

The ultramodern edifice is named after the sponsor, Kamoru Yusuf who emphasised that education remains the bedrock of any given society, which reason he is investing in it for posterity.

He urged all to contribute towards the growth of education.

Yusuf said, “I am passionate about education and we have to teach our youths and provide the necessary facilities like this building for our youths all over Nigeria,”

Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor of Kwara State, Kayode Alabi lauded Dr. Kamoru Yusuf for taking a bold step for his bold step to advance education.

The deputy governor said Yusuf has written his name in the sands of time by embarking in the multi million naira edifice to encourage distance learning.

“I am not surprised because Dr. Yusuf is a first class industrialist and lover of education. So, deciding to build a centre for the educational development for young Nigerians is worthy of emulation,”

In appreciation, UNICAL awarded the sponsor a doctorate degree in Business Management (Honoria Causa).

Vice Chancellor of UNICAL, Prof. Florence Obi commended the Kwara state business tycoon/ industrialist for the conceiving the idea to build a distance learning centre for the school.

“we are indeed very grateful to you for deciding to build an ODL centre for us. When we came to meet you, we presented our challenges especially that we wanted to start our distance education programme, which will provide access to many more Nigerians, who do not have the opportunity of coming to do face-to-face contact in the university. You had jumped at the opportunity. We are grateful.

“This will enable us meet the benchmark of the National Universities Commission that for a distance learning programme, you must have a stand alone building labelled as Open and Distance Learning Centre for NUC accreditation,” The VC maintained.

The groundbreaking ceremony climaxed with the award of diplomas, first, second and doctorate degrees to over four thousand students of the tertiary institution.
