Customs North Central joint patrol sizes 1,040 bags of foreign rice, other contrabands

The Nigerian Customs Service, (NCS) Joint Border Patrol Team Sector 3, says it has recorded 43 seizures of various items with a duty paid value of N61,002, 800 million within 18 months.

The Coordinator of the team in charge of North Central, Comptroller Olugboyega Peters stated this while briefing Journalists at the Command Headquarters in Ilorin.

According to him the Patrol team has also arrested five illegal Immigrants with arms and ammunitions.

He said some of the items seized include ,1,274 bags of foreign Rice, neatly packed in 13 pick up vans,23 units of used vehicles ,One locally made gun and 8 Catridges.

Comptroller Peters explained that other items are 9 drums of AGO, 242 Jerri cans of Petrol, 7 Motorcycles as well as 7 Jerry Cans of 25 litres of Groundnut oil.

He noted that the five suspected Illegal Immigrants have been handed over to the appropriate agencies for prompt action.

Comptroller Peters said the partial border closure is meant to encourage local farmers and control the smuggling of prohibited items into the country.

He however warned that anyone cought engaging in illegal trade will be punished.
