Civil defence corps in Nasarawa intercepts truck with railway sleepers, arrests 8 suspects

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Nasarawa state, says it has intercepted a truck loaded with 370 railway sleepers and apprehended eight suspects in Agyaragu area in the Lafia local government area of the state.

Parading the suspects on Wednesday in Lafia, the commandant of the NSCDC, Mr. Mamodu Fari, said all the suspected were arrested through the command intelligence deployed to various decisional command in the state.

NSDC boss revealed that the suspects were apprehended on March 31, 2021 in Agyaragu area in the Lafia local government area of the state.

His words: “All the suspects were apprehended in Agyaragu in the Lafia local government area of the state. We learnt that they are going round with the railway sleepers in the state we sent our intelligence officers out and in the process the suspects were apprehended.”

According to him, as soon as the command complete its investigation all the suspects will be arraigned in court and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

He, however, explained that the command had earlier on arrested three persons, the driver and two passengers through them the command started investigation that led to the arrest of the eight suspects.

He added that last time the command sent it officers to Abuja where they suspects sold the railway sleepers upon reaching there the officers of the command discovered that the xpeople had already closed from their office.

Consequently, the commandant disclosed that six persons have been arrested in connection to the killing of Mayetti AllahAllah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBA), late Muhammed Hussieni and his counterpart late Mohammed Umar in Garaku area of Kokona local government area of the state on Friday night last week.

Speaking separately to our correspondent in an exclusive shortly after they were paraded, a 37 year-old man, Yahaya Salihu who is the driver that conveyed the railway sleepers, said when he was called upon by the prime suspect to convey the items and that he would paid the sum of N50,000, adding that he didn’t known anything about the railway sleepers.

He said: “I was only called upon to convey railway sleepers. I didn’t known anything about the railway sleepers.”

Also speaking to our correspondent, a 26 year-old man, Anthony Emmanuel who is the prime suspect, confessed to have committed a crime and pleaded for mercy.
