Judicial workers, Nigerian Bar Association members in Gombe embark on peaceful procession to press home demands, government assures of support

As the indefinite strike action embarked upon by judiciary workers continue unabated thereby grounding the county’s judicial system to a halt, Gombe State Chapter of the judiciary workers on Tuesday joined in the peaceful procession to press home their demand of autonomous judiciary.
Meanwhile, Gombe State Government has assured that it will support and create enabling environment for the Judicial arm to deliver on its mandate as provided for in the constitution of the country.
The assurance was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi while playing host to a joint peaceful Procession of the State branches of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) at the Government House.
The SSG further assured that the state Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is Committed to the independence of the Judiciary as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (amended) .
Abubakar Njodi also explained that, for the State to holistically progress, all arms of Government should operate with Common purpose adding that as democratic administration which respect the rule of law, Government will support all legitimate demands of the people.
While Commending the members of JUSUN and NBA for the peaceful Procession, the SSG restated that the APC led Government is commitment to ensuring justice to all segments of the society.
He explained that Government is read to grant Judicial arm the Financial autonomy as provided by the Nigerian Constitution as soon as the grey areas of implementation are ironed out by stakeholders.
He further assured the striking Judiciary workers of deserved attention by the government but appealed to them to reconsider their stand as the state Government is committed to their well being.
Earlier, the State Chairman of JUSUN, Barrister Babangida Bako and that of NBA, Barrister Haruna Yelma submitted that it is their belief in dialogue and negotiation that informed their decision to reach out to Government on what they described as legitimate and constitutional demand for complete independence of the Judiciary.
While acknowledging the Contributions and support of the Executive arm to the Judiciary, leaders of the two Unions also expressed Confidence in Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s led to do justice to their demands as contained in a statement by Joshua Danmalam, Information Officer SSG’s office.
