Taraba Governor, Ishaku wants North-East governors to ensure Mambilla hydro power project becomes reality

Governor Darius Ishaku has urged governors of the Northeast Forum to be more proactive in ensuring that the multibillion-dollar Mambilla Hydro-Electric Power Project comes to reality.
The Governor who said the Power Project has capacity of three thousand and fifty megawatts maintained that if fully operational can generate half of the present national power output from all existing generation stations combined.
He stated that there is pressing need to construct access road to the dam site which is located in Barup village, on the Mambilla plateau, in Sardauna Local Government Area of the State.
Governor Darius Ishaku stressed the economic benefits of the power project, which has the potential to create hundreds of thousands of skilled and unskilled jobs for Taraba State, the Northeast region, and the entire country.
He tasked the North-East Governors’ forum to meet with the leadership of the National Assembly to press for budgetary provisions to make supplementary appropriation as there is zero allocation in the twenty twenty one Federal Budget.
The Governor identify insurgency as a debacle that has disrupted ways of life and developmental efforts of Governors in the North east.
Governor Darius Ishaku appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari’s renewed energy in confronting the Boko Haram threat, banditry, kidnapping for ransom, and other criminal activities saying more needed to be done to overcome security challenges once and for all in the whole country.
He averred that persistent Boko Haram activities has made many people to lost their loved ones opining that the threat will remain intractable as long as the insurgents sources of funding, supplies, and recruitment are not cut off.
The Governor saluted the Nigerian Military’s sacrifices, heroism, and professionalism, not just in the fight against insurgents but also in defending the country’s sovereignty and unity.
Governor Darius Ishaku acknowledged that the military, police, and other security organizations have played and would continue to play an important role in maintaining peace and security in troubled areas of the State promising to provide them with the required assistance and cooperation in this difficult undertaking.
In his remarks,Governor of the North east Governors Forum Professor Babagana Umara Zulum thanked President Mohammadu Buhari for his new vigour on the fight against insurgency.
He encouraged Governors of the Northeast to explore resources at their disposal to better the lot of people of their various states.
Professor Zulum pledged the resolve of the Forum to always stand by people of the Northeast despite daunting challenges facing the Nation.
In his vote of thanks Secretary to the State Government Anthony Jellason thanked God for granting them safe trip to the State and wished them a happy stay.
The Northeast Governors Forum would last for two days.
