Obong of Calabar calls for unity amongst Nigerians

The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V has called for peace, understanding and unity amongst the various tribes and ethnic groups in the country.

Obong of Calabar said all should de-emphasise tribal sentiments in order to move the country forward.

The foremost monarch spoke in his palace when he inaugurated an executive committee of the Obong of Calabar Executive Forum (OCEF) following the resignation of the former chairman, Chief Asuquo Ekpenyong who served for 10 years and who has been made a clan head.

The Obong said, “Nigeria needs peace and unity now more than anything else. Unnecessary emphasise on ethnic and tribes should be de-emphasise.”

He particularly urges the Cross River State people to come together, work as a team and act as one people to enable more progress to come in.

He charged the new OCEF headed by Chief Gershom Henshaw to worker harder and surpass their predecessors who reinvigorated the famous traditional celebration called Utomo Obong to international standard.
