ICPC commissions own office in Yola

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has commissioned its office in Yola, Adamawa State.

Speaking during the commissioning, the chairman of Commission, Professor Bolaji Owasanoye (SAN) said the prototype office is the third in the country that has been officially commissioned after that of Oyo and Sokoto States.

Professor Bolaji who was full of joy commended a former Governor Murtala Nyako for allocating the plot of land to build the office.

The building, the Senate and House of Representatives committees on ICPC applauded contributions made to the structure a reality.
He disclosed to the guests that the Commission is empowered to set up offices in the 36 States of the Nation.

Bolaji revealrd that, “Permit me to inform you that the Adamawa State Office was among the second set of state offices that were established by ICPC in 2007 with a few members of staff in a rented apartments.

The ICPC boss said, “the new building was unique for two reasons which are that it was in fulfilment of ICPCs dream to own its offices in all states of the Federation.”

Also noted that, to fulfil the promise made by the commission at a National Anti-Corruption summit held in February 2018 in Yola to complement the efforts of the Adamawa State in establishing agencies like the public procurement Agency and for incorporating the provisions of the ICPC Act in its Penal Code.

Prof. Bolaji also disclosed that the edifice has a conference room, offices, investigation rooms, store and detention facilities among other.

He accordingly added that, “It is therefore the desire of the commission that State Governments will partner and collaborate with the Commission in the pursuit of its mandate to eradicate all forms of corruption in the country”.

In his speech, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri ably represented by his deputy Chief Crowther Seth said the state value the setting of the Commission in order to fight corruption.

“It therefore goes without saying that the marriage between the ICPC and Adamawa State is irrevocable.

The Chairman House of Representatives Committees on ICPC, Honourable Garba Shehu explained that corruption had so eaten deep that Nigeria is rated as the most corrupt country in the world.

Shehu added that the National Assembly is unanimous in supporting the fight against corruption.

Also, the Senate Chairman Committee on ICPC, Senator Suleiman Kwari represented by member representing Adamawa South in the Senate Binos Dauda Yaroe urged the pubic to be the vanguard on the fight against corruption.
