Financial autonomy: Bauchi Speaker tasks lawmakers, staff to sustain cooperation with executive, judiciary for good governance

Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, Abubakar Y Suleiman has tasked the Members and the staff of the Assembly to sustain the existing mutual trust, cooperation and understanding among the three arms of Government.
He made the appeal on Tuesday during the opening ceremony of a 4-day training workshop for Members and management staff of the Assembly on State House of Assembly Fund Management Law which is taking place at Chilla Luxury Suites, Kano.
The Speaker who declared the workshop opened, explained that as the financial autonomy for the State Legislature and Judiciary is being implemented, they should continue to see themselves as partners in progress as well as understand and practice the spirit and letter of the principles of separation of powers.
He said that, “When we do this, the outcome will always be effective policy formulation and implementation, which leads to excellent service delivery for the good people of Bauchi State” .
The Speaker added that, “No doubts, financial autonomy for the state legislature was conceived to grant considerable level of independence on both the users of funds accruable to the legislative arm and the administration of the parliament for good governance”.
“However, I believe all three arms of government have critical roles to play in promoting good governance, ensuring political stability, and fostering sustainable economic growth and development of our dear State.” He further said.
Abubakar Suleiman who said that the workshop was organized to sensitize the Members, Management and Staff of the Bauchi State House of Assembly on the implementation of the financial autonomy with a view to knowing its knitty gritty, urged the participants to make good use of what they will learn during the workshop.
He also thanked and commended the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad for his support always to the Bauchi State House of Assembly in discharging its constitutional responsibilities of law making, oversight and representation.
In his remarks, the lead consultant for the training workshop, Dr. Shuaibu Abdullahi Da wanka of National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, National Assembly Abuja said that the training is meant to sensitize the participants on on the operationalization of the financial, enactment of States Assembly Fund Management Law and matters arising as contained in a statement by Abdul Ahmad BurraSpokesperson to the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly.
