Connected Development begins tracking of COVID-19 funds, vaccines storage facility in Bauchi

In order to ensure that funds released to state governments in the country for COVID-19 pandemic fight, Connected Development (CODE) has begun tracking of such funds through its programme, Covid Transparency and Accountability Project (CTAP). 

The Team Lead of the Organisation in Bauchi, Jacklin Ojeyokan made the disclosure when he presented the organisation’s report to Bauchi State Government in Misau Local Government Area on Monday. 
He said that it was discovered that many of the primary health care centres did not have a storage facility for the Covid-19 vaccine while some others did not have required and qualified personnel to administer the jab in spite of the funds made available to the states.

While handing over the report to the Executive Chairman of the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed who was represented by the Director PHC in Misau, Jibril Inuwa, Jacklin said that, “study was done in Bauchi, Darazo, Misau and Katagum local councils” .

He added that, “In Yelwa Domiciliary, we discovered that there is no appropriate staff accommodation. Tashan Babiye has no accommodation and pharmaceutical fridge to store the vaccine. In Misau, there is no Doctor, no pharmaceutical services and lab technicians. The case is similar in Kofar Fada, Gadau and Darazo PHCs’. 

The Project is tagged ‘Follow the Money’ and it  is tracking the Covid-19 funds in 15 states across the country. 
In his remarks, Executive Chairman of BASPHCDA, Dr. Rilwanu Mohammed said that the state was aware of the challenges facing the PHCs assuring  that the government is working towards employing more doctors and other health workers to properly man the 323 main PCHs. 

He also said that the Agency has successfully administered the first phase while it has embarked on the second phase.

He assured that the Agency would fix all the identified challenges.
