Wife of Inspector General of Police empowers Police widows in Anambra

The wife of the Inspector-General of Police and National President of Police Officers Wives Association, (POWA), Hajiya Hajara Usman Baba Alikali, has empowered more than thirty police widows in Anambra State, as part of activities marking the 2021 Police Officers Wives Association, women conference and empowerment program held at Professor Dora Akuyili Centre Awka.
The wife of the IGP handed over to beneficiaries sewing and grinding machines and cheques to the Police widows, this according to her is to help them start productive activities in the absence of their husbands, with a view to making them economic self reliance.
She said that in the next six months she will be Anambra State to monitor the progress made by these women in their various businesses, stressing that the items are not for sale.
Hajiya Hajara Usman Baba Alikali said her major focus is on education, welfare and the health of the children of Police officers, according to her ten million naira has been mapped out for the winner of a competition for Police children.
The wife of the IGP called on members of the Association to support their husbands to enable them serve the Nation better, promising that she will draw the attention of the inspector-general of Police to the plight of police widows, who are yet to receive the benefits of their late husbands and the destruction of the Police Barracks in Nnewi.
She appealed to her members to direct their children well and to encourage them in their education, adding that Police Officers wives now carry out regular sanitation in Police Barracks.
The wife of the State Governor Chief Mrs. Ebelechukwu Obiano in her speech, prayed God to bless the Wife of the IGP for her efforts in addressing the plight of police widows by taking them to the next level.
According to chief Mrs. Obiano the state government has equally supported the police widows and her organization CAFE Successfully  replaced many dilapidated mud houses for indigent widows in Anambra State, while mentally challenged persons  have been taken away from the streets of Anambra State, providing them with medications and skills and a place of abode for gradual reintegration into the society.
The wife of the Governor noted that her skills acquisition programs have been of immense benefits to the women and the youths including the men.
She said that the present administration in Anambra State has done a lot for the past seven years and after thirty years an international Airport has been built for the people of the State.
Dignitaries present during the Police officers women conference and Empowerment program were the wives of Senior Police Officers, including the wife of the Anambra State Commissioner of Police Mrs. Kris Owolabi, the State Commissioner for Women Affairs Mrs. Ndidi Mezue and the Special Adviser to the Governor on chieftaincy and Town Union matters Mrs. Vera Okonkwo, many women groups graced the occasion including female youth corpers serving in Anambra State.
Later in the evening a dinner party was held in honour of the wife of the IGP by the State government.
