StandUp for Women Society asks for inclusion in decision-making organs

A group, Standup for Women Society, has called on states and the federal government of Nigeria to include women in leadership and decision-making positions.

The group also called on the governments to take up the responsibilities of protecting the right of women in the society.

National president Liberator Deborah Ojadele-Adetona, explained that the association is geared at protecting the rights of women in the society by serving as a voice to the voiceless and ensuring that women are also given the opportunity to contribute their quota to the growth of the Nation.

She spoke in Calabar at the inauguration of the Cross River State chapter of SWS headed by Umoh Bassey Edet

“Women are charged to wake up to the Clarion call to build capacity and take up leadership positions in the country and also put an end to the trend of women being viewed as weaker vessels and unfit to attain certain heights.” she said

As the days go by, Women in the society are waking up to the Clarion call to build capacity and take up leadership positions in the country. This is the focus on the inauguration of the Standup for Women Society in Calabar, the Cross River State Chapter

The Stand up for Women Society is an association that is geared towards ensuring women are recognized and given opportunities to take up the mantle of leadership in key areas of the country.

While inaugurating the State’s Chapter of the association and officers that will pilot the affairs of the association in the state, the National President urged them to stay true to the objective of the association in ensuring that women are liberated from challenges such as unemployment, lack of skills and gender violence.

She called on both the Federal and State government to ensure that the rights of women are protected.

Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Cross River State, Dr Stella Odey-Ekpo and State Matron of SWS encouraged women to always seek out ways to build themselves as opportunity could beckon on them anytime, she appreciated the Cross River State Governor, Prof Ben Ayade for creating an enabling platform for women to thrive in the State and promised to give the necessary support needed by the Association to realize it’s mandate in the state and the country at large.

Secretary to Governor of Cross River State, Barr Tina Banku Agbor who also spoke, noted that although the journey towards greatness might be rough, women should remain determined and focused as well as support each other if they must leave legacies in the sands of time.

Chairperson of the newly inaugurated chapter Umoh Bassey-Edet revealed that the inauguration signals a new era for women including the vulnerable, adding that the chapter is up and ready to transform the lives of women in the State.

The event featured award presentation of the He for She Ambassador to the Special Adviser to the Governor On Cocoa, Dr Oscar Ofuka, cutting of the inauguration cake and display of colourful dance steps to entertain guest at the event.
