The Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State has said that they will again disgrace the national ruling party, APC, at the yet to be announced electoral contest to fill the vacant position of Ogoja/Yala federal constituency.
The position became vacant following the confirmation by the Supreme Court that the occupant, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe who occupied the post, was the rightful winner of the Cross River northern senatorial election which also became vacant in February 2020 as a result of the death of Senator Rose Oko.
PDP had fought several legal battles with APC bigwigs led by the state governor, Prof Ben Ayade, to ensure that Jarigbe was sworn in few days ago as the Cross River north Senator.
Three leaders of Cross River Nationall Assembly caucus, serving PDP senators, Prof Sandy Onoh (Cross River central), Gershom Bassey (Cross River south) and Jarigbe spoke in Calabar about how they will work to recover power from APC next election year, maintaining that APC, even with the Governor, will continue to suffer defeats in their hands.
Sandy Onor said: “This present APC-led Government in the state has been taking bad advice and misleading the people. We shall put a final nail on the coffin on who owns the State at the coming Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency by-election.
“We are also aware that APC is not on the ground in the Cross River North and cannot therefore go all out to rig. We are ready for them,. We will disgrace them”, the Senator said.
Expressing gratitude for the solidarity during the trial period, Sen. Jarigbe said: “With PDP clinching the Senate seat, APC is a Minority in Cross River. And after this congress, we are going to bring back àll those people who left the party because of food on the table.
“By 2023 we are going to change the narrative.”
Jarigbe said that one does not really need a governor to win election, and recalled his own kind of experience.
“My success at all levels of contest has proven that you don’t need a Governor to win an election. All we need is to go home to our various wards and chapters and mobilise our people to come out and vote for the party in 2023. With that we are good to go.”
Speaking after Jarigbe’s victory, Governor Ayade had said having lost the senatorial seat courtesy of the Supreme Court, they will work harder to fill the Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency seat.
