The Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly, Williams Jonas Eteng has called on political leaders and other Nigerians to work towards greater unity and peace.
He spoke to journalists in his office as Nigeria marks 61 years independence anniversary, saying the country has passed so much and has also achieved much.
Eteng said that Nigerian leaders of today should create new and positive legacies for future generations of Nigerians.
According to him, founding fathers of the country worked harder to bequeath a united country.
“What we owe them and posterity is for this generation of leaders and electorate to also bequeath enduring legacies to posterity such that will greatly unite the peoples of Nigeria.
“This is our time to create our own legacies so that posterity will also celebrate us. Our forebears did much to unite his country. In the same vein, we should try our utmost best to unite irrespective of where we come from.
“At 61, Nigeria has achieved a lot given our age whereas bigger and older countries we look up to did not achieve as much. Let us live in peace and have hope in the country even though we have gone through a lot.
“We need peace and unity to be greater than what we are now. Let us believe in Nigeria”, he said.
