A renowned spiritual leader, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star has declared a week of free foods and philanthropy to mark his birthday this year.
Briefing journalists at the headquarters of the Spiritual Organization, the spokesman, Christ Shepherd Edet Archibong said the open kitchen in the streets will involve cooking assorted vegetarian meals for people and at their headquarters.
He said the Spiritual Head has also directed his faithful to distribute raw foods as well as material palliatives, and also pay visits on his behalf to motherless homes and other welfare centres in Calabar and other nearby towns with cash and other gifts.
Archibong added that the spiritual leader earlier sponsored the installations of solar powered street lights in the neighborhood of their headquarters.
“To mark the Divine Manifestation of our leader this year, like what happened last year, our leader has declared a week of festivities, philanthropy and open kitchen for even non-members. This open kitchen involves cooking and giving out free foods to members of the public. Everyone is free to partake of them.
“During the birthday week, the solar powered lights shall be commissioned. Daily Evangelism, choral and sports competitions and humanitarian visits are also parts of the celebration”, he said.
To climax the one week birthday festivities, Archibong said there would be a colourful procession round the streets of Calabar by their different priestly pews as well as a royal banquet to which the high and mighty are billed to grace.
