Bauchi to lift employment embargo placed on health sector- Deputy Governor assures

Bauchi State Government has reiterated that very soon, it would lift the employment embargo placed on the recruitment in the health sector in the state in order to ensure that healthcare delivery particularly at primary level was improved.
The assurance was made by the State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela while speaking at the State Primary Healthcare retreat for 2021 organized for the stakeholders,with the theme ‘Towards Building a Sustainable and Resilient Primary Healthcare System in Bauchi state’ held on Wednesday in Gombe.
The stakeholders included traditional and religious leaders, development partners, Federal, state and local government officials in the health sector among others.
The Deputy Governor said that the state government has priority in the implementation of programmes that would improve health care delivery in the state saying, “We are working on the verification exercise report to see that the health care system gets more human resources in the state.”
He added that, “The administration is committed to health care delivery that is why the state had settled the outstanding counterpart fund with partners to the tune of N350 million,”.
Baba Tela who is also the Chairman Primary Healthcare stakeholders committee in the state urged the Stakeholders to deliberate and come out with robust policy and programme that would strengthen the health care sector in the state.
Also Speaking, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr Sama’ila Dahuwa said that the state government needs policies and programmes that would drive opportunities for sustaining the Primary Healthcare system in the state.
He also said that considering Primary healthcare service which provide basic health care to over 80% of the citizens, adding that the lack of sustainability of PHCs would dampen the productivity of the health care system and delivery in the state.
Samaila Dahuwa assured that the retreat would provide opportunity for stakeholders to brainstorm and come up with a valuable programme for effective healthcare delivery for the citizens of the state.
On his part, Alhaji Bashir Maidabino, representative of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) commended the Bauchi state government for committing to a sustainable primary healthcare system.
He urged government and stakeholders to take ownership of the community health services, which he said would improve sustainability and effective health care delivery.
Bashir Maidabino also called on the stakeholders to use the retreat to produce programmes and projects that would strengthen primary health Care services to the citizens.
