Pastors, Imams challenged to champion menstrual hygiene management crusade

Pastors and Imams have been challenged to take advantage of their worship platforms to champion the crusade of healthy menstrual hygiene management for girls and young adolescents.

Afolabi Ahmed, Coordinator of Plan International Kimberly Clark Corporation (KCC) funded Menstrual Hygiene Management Project in Bauchi gave this charge Thursday in stakeholders engagement with members of the two relogions

According to him, the platforms of pastors, Imams and traditional leaders are critical to achieving the aim of the Project due to the large people they speak to on Weekly basis.

“Pastors and Imams talk to a very large number of people on a weekily basis, hence the need to use the platforms to call on parents on Why it is important to guide young girls to have healthy Menstruation experience”, he said.

Pastor Patrick Ozaalor, Chaplain, Chapel of Victory, ATBU, Bauchi on behalf of the Christians said they have a way of making the awareness on Menstruation more effective using various units in the Church.

He said, “We can make it more effective by breaking it down into the various groups in the Church, we have the men and women wing, ladies forum, teenage/youth unit; in this areas, we can engage leaders of these nits to push it down in their groups apart from the Pastor talking to the entire Church from the pulpit.

Abdulakilsaman Ogala, an Imam, on his part held that beyond enlightment on mosques, they can also produce pamphlets for children on how to Manage the issue of menstrual hygiene.

Mohammed Nasir, the Bauchi State Project Manager explained that Plan adopts gender transforming strategy of addressing supply and demands barriers to make the awareness delivery points of the gender responsible and adolescent-friendly.
