Sad as hoodlums disrupt 21st memorial anniversary of Baba Gonto, set venue, houses, cars ablaze in protest

The 21st memorial anniversary, book launch and foundation institution of late leader and crusader of the Sayawa nation, Baba Peter Gonto held on Friday in Bogoro was disrupted by yet to be identified hoodlums burning down the venue of the event.
The program which commenced with a memorial Church service and concert held at the COCIN Church, Mwari on Thursday, had popular gospel artists led by Panam Percy Paul performing to the admiration of those in attendance particularly, family members of the late Sage’s family.
In his homily at the event, Rev Balewa stressed that the legacy of late leader and crusader of the Sayawa nation should not be allowed to decay and waste away but should be harnessed for the growth and development of the area.
On Friday, during the main event which was supposed to be a book presentation on life of late Baba Gonto and launching of a foundation on education in his name to support indigent students of the area.
All of sudden, hoodlums mostly youths invaded the GDSS venue of the event and set the stage on fire after destroying every available item at the venue forcing people to scamper for safety of their lives.
The hoodlums who blocked all the roads leading in and out of Bogoro had earlier attacked the convoys of the Emirs of Bauchi and Dass in the company of another visiting traditional rulers smashing the Emirs cars and other cars in the convoy.
Though there was no reported case of casualties as of the time of filing this report, properties and other valuable items worth millions of Naira were utterly destroyed by the hooligans who are believed to be political thugs and urchins.
