Borno Governor, Zulum signs N269.7bn 2022 budget into law

The Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, has signed the 2022 state budget into law.

The government will be spending N269.7 billion approved by the Borno State House of Assembly.

The Assembly Speaker, Abdulkarim Lawan, said a total of N1.5 billion increment had been made to the original N267.7 billion earlier proposed to realise the new figure of N269.9 billion.

The Governor who expressed happiness with the Lawmakers for the speedy passage of the budget however warned his commissioners that he would be ruthless with any commissioner who spends beyond his or her ministry’s approved budget.

Governor Zulum had name the new budget as “Budget of Hope for Post-Conflict Stability”.

Before the additional increment of the budget Governor Zulum had pegged the total sum N172 billion for capital expenditure and N95 billion recurrent expenditure.

Borno state government, going by the assurances of Zulum, intends to spend a chunk of the budget to “fast-tracking ongoing reconstruction of destroyed communities for safe and dignified resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), as well as provision of livelihood and social support to the people.”
