The formal transition of the Supreme Leader of the Jukun, the Aku Uka, His Majesty Dr. Shekarau Angyu Masa-Ibi Kuvyu II took place on Friday January 14, 2022 at Nando, in Wukari, Taraba State, the ancestral cultural ground where paramount rulers of the Kwararafa Empire go for eternal expedition.
Wukari was a beehive of activities as mourning subjects took part in the “Pankya”, the final traditional rites of his Majesty who joined his ancestors in the expendition in October last year.
The Fagachin Keffi and District Head of Keffi who represented the Emir of Keffi, Alhaji Shamsudeen Abubakar Maikasuwa, said the Aku Uka was a great pillar that holds the Kwararafa people together, describing him as a father who led the Kingdom to greatness.
Alhaji Shamsudeen enjoined the next Aku Uka to emulate his predecessor who against all odds ensured that peace reigned supreme and uplifted the status of the Kwararafa Kingdom.
The procession known as “Akye” began about 7.30 am from the Aku Uka Palace where all the male children of the late leader, in their numbers matched bare-footed with his official belongings to Puje where mourners all converged and paid their last respects, before they moved to Nando his final place of abode.
Present at the “Pankya” ceremony were traditional rulers from across the nation in the likes of Gara of Donga, Long Gomai of Shendam, representatives of Attah Igala, Och’ Idoma, Fagachin Keffi, Chief Mark Elayo, Turaki of Keana among others.
