1000 Cross River women get 50k each for petty businesses

One thousand low income women from different parts of Cross River State have received N50,000 each as seed money too enable them start petty businesses.
The disbursement ceremony held yesterday in Ikom in central part of the state.
It was organised by Asuquo Ekpenyong Foundation in collaboration with Cross River Women Emancipation Initiative, CROWEI.
The women had participated in a 2-week business development training to enable them decided on which particular micro businesses they will embark on and sustain.
Part of the training the women passed through was financial management and how to access loans and grow their businesses.
Speaking at the disbursement ceremony, Initiator of the Foundation, Mr. Asuquo Ekpenyong said the project was created to support women across the state experiencing harsh economic challenges.
He said the entire exercise was to enable the women commence, develop and sustain their micro businesses.
He said: “Women make up more than half of our universe. If they do not prosper, we cannot thrive.
We must find ways to alleviate the suffering of our people. One of the ways is through supporting our women.
“In my experience, people do not want to be given fish. They want to be taught how to fish. They want to be given the tools to improve their lives and the lives of their families.”
Two of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Nkoyo Okon from Akparabong Ward and Miss Favour Ushie from Bekwara expressed gratitude to the Foundation and CROWEI for the grants, which would enable the revival of their businesses.
