In an interview, coordinator and founder of The Imah Nsa Adegoke Foundation, Mrs Imah Adegoke explained that it was important for them to move round the 18 local government areas of the state of draw attention to the reasons women should have rights to properties.
“The purpose of the visit is to flag off our Awareness Campaign on the Female Persons Right to Inherit Property Law of Cross River State with the heads of traditional institutions in the State.
“We feel that they hold the customs and traditions of our people.
“Many of these said customs have subjected our widows and women to the injustice they have long suffered.”
She said that they held a public event in Calabar last year for widows and stressed the need for such native laws to be repudiated.
She also disclosed that during the sensitisation campaign, some of the Widows’ Executives from the Calabar South & Municipality LGAs will participate.
