A former Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice in Cross River State, Attah Ochinke, former member of House of Representatives, Bassey Ewa and 35 other critical PDP stakeholders and leaders in the Central District of the state, have cautioned politicians and aspirants from the district against vying for the governorship.
They held a PDP stakeholders meeting in Ugep, Yakurr local government area of the state, and resolved that they will not support anyone from their district for Governorship next year in keeping with the spirit of zoning.
In their communique, reminded that they have already provided leadership through their son, Senator Liyel Imoke as governor of the state, and should not come in again quickly.
“Since it has become even more imperative for the people of the State to return PDP to power in 2023, we have decided to support the principle of zoning and rotation of political power to the south.
“Following the established sequence of rotation, we have resolved that the governorship of Cross River State in 2023 should be zoned to the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State.
“This position is taken in the unshaken confidence that there are members of the party from the Southern Senatorial District with capacity, competence and commitment to lead the state.
They urged Party members across the state who are aspiring for offices and positions of responsibility on the platform of the party to maintain decorum in the conduct of their political activities and ensure that the unity, cohesion and integrity of the party are not compromised.
Reacting, the Senator representing central senatorial district of the state, Prof Sandy Onor cautioned that no one should play God as power is only given by Him alone.
He spoke through his governorship campaign Organization, The Caterpillar Movement through their press statement signed by its director general, Joe Bisong Obi.
They described the stakeholders as self styled leaders of PDP in the district.
They said that even though they had resolved never to engage anybody or group anymore on issues of zoning of governorship for 2023 yet they will not glorify the group but call on all aspirants to meet them in the field for the electorate to decide.
