United States Centre for Disease Control team discusses with Bauchi Deputy Governor, COS, others

The United States Centre for Disease Control on Tuesday engaged Bauchi State Government in discussions over critical issues in respect of health system strengthening and advocate for holistic policy revivification in the administration of health programs.
The US-CDC team said that they are working in close association with the United States Agency for International Development, the USAID-projects to provide technical support, disease surveillance and testing using their community foot soldiers at local government areas which will in turn sustain outcomes. 
Areas of intervention by the US CDC which is done through African Field Epidemiology Networks (AFNET) are mainly strengthening Routine Immunization, SIAs and Outbreak Response, data quality, and capacity building.
In the office of the State Deputy Governor where the interaction largely focused on the need to create innovative health approaches in the business of health so as to work efficiently to drive a better change. Improving health indices require the State be investing heavily in health system strengthening.
On the issue of derived polio circulating mutant virus, the visiting partners commended the state for the commitment towards curtailing its spread, noted that the MoU arrangement with development partners has further indicate attestation of concern and hard work by the side of government.
However, on the vaccination, the team expressed concern of how the state is becoming aback in terms of vaccines uptake, the meeting also advocated that local government chairmen should take ownership of the exercise in such away that more people will be vaccinated and other PHC services can get improved.
The State Deputy Governor, Senator Baba Tela who also double as Chairman State Task Force on Primary Health charged the visiting partners to come up with holistic policy to the Government that would define vaccine administration, promotion, utilization and reduce hesitancy.
The team also were in the office of the Chief of Staff office to the Governor, Dr Aminu Hassan Gamawa where they discussed important matters. He expressed appreciation for the partnership.
Those who accompanied the team included, Executive Chairman, SPHCDA Dr Rilwanu Mohammed, Director Disease Control and Immunization, Malam Dahiru Ibrahim Mahmoud, Incidence Manager, Emergency Operation Centre, Dr Salisu Idris Isah and Ibrahim Sani, Head of Media and Information Officer.
