Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has restated the adoption of Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, as the recognized candidate of the APC in the state for the position of the national chairman of the party.

Engineer Sule made this known in a chat with journalists shortly after meeting with Senator Al-makura in Abuja.

Responding to questions from journalists seeking clarification, especially that Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has also joined the race for the national chairman of the APC, Engineer Sule said as a Nigerian, Senator Adamu has the right to contest for the position but the party in Nasarawa State has adopted Senator Al-makura.

According to the governor, Senator Al-makura represented the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), leading to the merger of the legacy parties in 2013 to give rise to the APC.

“If there is any face of the CPC in Nigeria, apart from President Buhari, it’s Tanko Al-makura,” he stated.

He emphasized that Senator Adamu has the right to contest in a democracy but the APC in Nasarawa State has endorsed Senator Al-makura.

“Senator Adamu is a Nigerian. He is a member of the APC. But as a state, we have endorsed Tanko Al-makura,” Engineer Sule stated.

Meanwhile, the APC might have shifted its National convention apparently to give more room for adjustments and horsetrading. The convention was initially billed for Saturday February 26, 2022.

Another strong contestant for the national chairmanship of the APC is Senator George Akume, a former Governor of Benue State and Minister of Inter-governmental affairs.
