By Munyal Markus Manunyi

The international mother tongue day this year, came with fun activities from poets across the globe, who were hosted by Sujata Paul on her Talk Show – Creativity Is Intelligence SP. So many poets came together to commemorate this day by reciting poems in their mother tongues. Among such poets in attendance whose poem got the attention of all, attracting a thunderous uproar of applause, was Mousumi Sachdeva from Assam, India. She had a beautiful poem recitation in her mother tongue Assamese, which got almost everyone present emotional, especially when she read out the English version of it. The poem which was also written in the Assamese alphabet read:

Hafalata ki baru?
Ek muthi sabdohe mathu
Iyar kunu sima nai
Jene icchar kunu porisima nai
Kune baru dombhali kobo pare
Moi aaji safal
Nai…safal kunu ketiyau hobo nuware
Karon safalotar kunu anta nai
Kunu sima nai
Safalta eti mathu sabdahe mathura

The English translated version reads:

What is success?
It’s just a mere word
It has no limits
Just as our wishes are illimitable
Who can proudly say,
I am successful?
No, none can ever be successful
Because, it has no end
It has no limits
Success is merely a word.
