13 Brigade, Calabar wins weapon handling competition

The 13 Brigade of Nigerian Army Calabar has won the topmost prize in this year’s Drill Weapon Handling competition.

Other winners were 14 Brigade Ohafia which emerged 2nd Position and 82 Division Garrison Enugu as 3rd Position.

The 82 division of the army organised the 5-day annual event for its formations, including 82 Division Garrison Enugu, 13 Brigade Calabar, 34 Brigade Owerri, 14 Brigade Ohafia, 44 Engineer and 52 Signal Brigade Abakalika.

The event known as Corporal and Below Competition included other games such as Night and Day Firing, Combat Swimming, Obstacle Crossing, Cross Country Race and also Map Reading and Navigation, amongst other games.

The event kicked off today at the 13 Brigade army barracks Calabar

General Officer Commanding 82 Division Major General T. A. Lagbaja who was the special guest of honou was represented by the Commander 14 Brigade, Brigadier-General M. D. Abumawashi.

He said the competition was aimed at improving sportsmanship amongst the Corporal’s and Below of the Division in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Vision.

He added that it will improve the leadership and organizing team spirit among Corporal’s and Below in the Division with the view to prepare them to undertake more challenging responsibilities.

Also speaking, the host, Commander 13 Brigade, Brigadier-General Everest Okoro advised the participants to put in their best and request.

He cautioned the Umpires to be neutral and give all competitors equal opportunities.

Top military personnel and others from sister security organisations witnessed the competition.
