Rainstorm destroys many houses, property worth millions of naira in Nasarawa

A building has its roof ripped off by the rainstorm

No fewer than 50 houses and property worth millions of naira were destroyed by rainstorm in Amba community in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa state State.

This was as a result of a heavy downpour that lasted for several hours,last Monday.

A visit to the scene by our reporter revealed that no life was lost during the incident.

The rain which was accompanied by a heavy windstorm rendered many families homeless and washed away farmlands of Ambasi community, Kokona local government area

Also affected were primary schools and worship centres, including residential buildings, as well as economic trees.

A landlords whose building was hit by the storm, who is also the village head of the community, Dahitu Danladi disclosed that the rain destroyed a lot of property in the community, adding that apart from the houses destroyed, the rainstorm, washed away food, clothes and mattresses.

The head teacher of a primary school affected n Ambasi, Habila Peter Nangba, and the youth leader of the community, Aliyu Ibrahim Baka, said the rainstorm has caused hardship to the members of the community particularly pupils who would not go to school, appealing to the authority concerned to come to their aid.

Audu Tsaku, another resident in a nearby village, who’s house was completely submerged including his valuables, recounted the incident, but thanked God that despite the devastating nature of the incident, no life was lost.

Reacting to the development, the chairman, Kokona Local government area, Auwalu Adamu, said he received the news of the sad incident with shocked, promising to forward the complained to the appropriate authority for prompt action and appealed to the community to be patient as government will handle the matter promptly.
