Chief Ateke Tom
By Akpan David, Calabar
A traditional ruler of Okochiri kingdom in Rivers State and ex-leader of Niger Delta Vigilante, Chief Ateke Tom has received a large delegation from the spiritual leader of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star in his palace in Okrika town, Rivers State.
He said he is very happy with their interventionist, spiritual and evangelical works.
He said he is supporting their projects because their philosophy of peace, love and unity tally much with his own desire for peace and unity, which tally with his project of peace in his community and Niger Delta region.
Welcoming the large delegation in his palace in Okrika, Ateke recalled the spiritual role played by the Brotherhood organization during the height of the militancy.
In a public statement issued at the end of the visit yesterday, Tom said: “I received in audience members of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star who were sent to have a fellowship of love with me from their leader Olumba Olumba Obu.
“The ideal healthy society of my dream is building daily the Bridges of Peace, Unity, Value and Love to preserve humanity as all that we have left to bequeath to our Children. We’re stronger together.
“The true love for God and humanity is the love expressed daily beyond the boarders of denominations, doctrines, beliefs and faith without thoughts and forms of discrimination”.
The delegation from the spiritual leader, His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu was led by The Patriarch, Christ Shepherd Sokipreye Wokoma, who is the administrator of the organization in Rivers State.
The visit was to mark the celebration of the organisation’s annual peace and unity feast hosted by Okrika town.
It would be recalled that during the height of the militancy in the Niger Delta, the spiritual leader constantly dissuaded the militant leaders, including Ateke Tom to tow the path of peace and lay down arms.
