By Akanji Alowolodu, Bauchi

37 years old gubernatorial candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in Bauchi State, Umar AG Aliyu has declared that he joined the race in order to wrestle the seat from his grandfather, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir, incumbent Governor of the state.

Speaking shortly after he was elected by delegates of the party from across the 20 LGAs in the state on Thursday, he said that, the old generation has failed woefully and should therefore leave the stage for the younger generation.

He assured that his joining the gubernatorial race is not a joke but a serious business that should be supported by all well meaning people of Bauchi State who want progress and development.

The gubernatorial candidate said that the greatest mistake that will be made by other older candidates to underestimate him because of his age saying, “that is what I will use to defeat them. The youths are agitated, they have been marginalized for too long, they are ready to step in to leadership offices”.

Umar AG Aliyu assured that though he will run an all youth inclusive administration when elected, the older generation will not be completely ignored but will be made to serve more in advisory capacities.

He also said that more job opportunities will be created in order to engage youths and women in useful ventures so that social vices in the society will be minimal if not totally eradicated.

The gubernatorial candidate then expressed confidence that the YPP will spring surprises in the 2023 General elections considering the way youths who are in the majority are embracing it across the country.
