Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, Rector appreciates Nigeria government, TETFUND, development partners despite dwindling resources

At the combined 10th convocation of the Federal Polytechnic, Nasasarawa in Nasarawa State, the Rector, Dr. Abdullahi Alhassn Ahmed took time to appreciate the Federal Government, relevant stakeholders and development partners for their support geared towards improved development in the institution.
Dr Ahmed posited the convocation is a fulfilment of the polytechnic determination to ensuring that the institution does not have backlogs of any qualifying students who are yet to be convocated.
According to him, “we are here today to perform the convocation of students covering graduants of 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021, may I on behalf of the entire polytechnic community, warmly welcome you, the Visitor to this polytechnic and President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCON) to the polytechnic.

“It is also my honour to welcome the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, HE ,Engineer Abdullahi Sule and as well welcome the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu. Let me also welcome you, our royal fathers, the Emir of Keffi and that of Nasarawa and other royal fathers respectively present, I also welcome you all our eminent personalities.
“And to the graduating students, the Visitor, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, today convocation is the tenth (10th) in the series of ceremonies held by this institution since inception in 1986 and the second to be organised by this current administration of the polytechnic.Today, a total of 18,000 graduated who have been found worthy of our certificate will be graduated.This total comprise of 11,000 graduates for National Diploma and 7,104 for awards of Higher National Diploma in various programs.
“The academic board of the polytechnic has also recommended and council has approved the conferment of the institution Honary to Fellowship to six eminent personalities for their various contributions to humanity and National Development. First among them is His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, next is Hajiya Zaniab S. Ahmed, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Third Honourable Aminu For, the Chairman, House Committee on Tertiary Institutions, the fourth is the Emir of Nasarawa, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin Usman.
Others are the former deputy governor of Plateau State and Osu Ajiri of Udege, Alhaji Halilu Bala Usman, the last is a post-humous conferment to the late Alhaji Jibrin Mairiga, who was the nineth Emir of Nasarawa” he mentioned.
The Rector further explained that the convocation was one among many achievements recorded by the current management of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa,he also said from inception the management has never relented in their resolved to further develop the polytechnic in terms of academic excellence, infrastructure and human capacity development.
“I want to report with every sense of modesty that we have recorded some modest achievements in our efforts to providing a conducive environment for research, teaching and learning.This couldn’t have been done without the support of the Federal Government, through TETFUND interventions.
“The polytechnic in recent times has been benefiting from substantial investment towards improving it physical infrastructure, majorly through the TETFUND.
“May I used this. Singular opportunity to expressed our profound gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria for it special grants from TETFUND aimed at making the polytechnic a center for academic excellence, the constructions of roads through the Federal Ministry of works and housing and the construction of ICT center by the Ministry Finance Budget and National planning are worthy of mentioned”, he added.
The Rector also appreciated organisation as the chartered institute of bankers, Nigeria communication commission and the National insurance commission for their assistance toward the development of the polytechnic.
He concluded by appealing to both the federal and Nasarawa State government for more interventions in the area of power supply, construction of roads and drainages as well as hostels constructions which poises a great setback in the polytechnic.
