Huge haul as Adamawa NDLEA arrests 296 offenders, seizes 3,107kg of illicit drugs

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Adamawa State command has arrested 296 offenders, seizes 3,107kg of illicit drugs and sentenced to six months to four years culprits according to the gravity of the offences.
The said this as it kick starts a 7-day activities to mark the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking which is slated on 26 June 2022.
In a press briefing, marking the commencement of activities, the Adamawa State commander of NDLEA, Femi Agboalu said in the last one year the command has recorded robust achievements by arresting drug offenders comprising 286 males and 11 females and seized 3,107.786kg.
His words, “Prosecution of drug suspect in court, the command performed creditably as 104 male drug offenders were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment ranging from lowest sentence of 6 months to the highest of 4 years without option of fine in the period under review.
“The total number of pending cases stands at 71 while number of conviction from January 2022 is 51 all males,” he said.
“Adamawa State will join the rest of the world in commemorating the world drug day with a week long activities starting with this press briefing today being 20th June 2022; Wednesday 22nd will be for advocacy road walk against drugs; Friday for Jumaat prayers, Saturday 25th for guest lecture, and Sunday 26th for thanksgiving service
Agboalu said, “The theme for this year’s commemoration is addressing drug challenges in health and humanitarian crisis. This theme is a clarion call in addressing transnational drugs challenges arising from situations of crisis and protecting the right to health for the most vulnerable, including children and youth; people using drugs, people with drug use disorders; and people who need access to controlled medicines.”
On the issue of arrest and confiscation of drugs, the commander said, Adamawa State command between June 2021 and May 2022 arrested over 296 drug offenders comprising of 286 males and 11 females suspects with various seizures of drugs.
“Cannabis Sativa, 2702.167kg, Tramadol, 146.806kg, Diazapam, 36.11kg, Exol 5, 29.676kg, Pentazocine, 124.578kg, Rohypnol, 1.473kg, codeine based syrup, 61.440kg cocaine, 0.013kg, methaqualone, 0.227kg, phenobarbitone, 2.290kg, total 3,107,786kg 28 round of live ammunition and one locally made pistol.”
The commander noted that the command has also done its best in terms of drug demand reduction adding that 44 males and one female clients have been counseled, treated and rehabilitated while series of WADA sensitization lectures were carried out just as WADA clubs in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions were set up in the state.
He commanded governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for unwavering effort at curtailing the menace of drug abuse in the state and also commended various stakeholders including gallant men of his command for the overall success recorded in the year under review.
