Japan signs $2.78m maritime security economic, social development programme for Nigeria

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr.
Kazuyoshi Matsunaga will attend the signing ceremony of the Exchange of Notes for “The Project for
Economic and Social Development Programme (High-Speed Boat to reinforce service for coastal security in
Nigeria)” on 27th June 2022.

The Government of Japan has extended the aid of JPY 300 million equivalent of
2.78 million USD to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in order to contribute to the economic
and social development in Nigeria.

This was contained in a statement from the embassy to Apex News Exclusive in Sunday.

The implementing partner is the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).
The project is to support the measures adopted by the Nigerian government to deal with the threat to the blue economy to prevent and suppress piracy, arm robbery, and any other unlawful act against a ship, aircraft, and any other maritime craft, including fixed and floating platform.
The “Economic and Social Development” is one of the guiding principles of the Tokyo International Conference on African
Development (TICAD). The people and the Government of Japan hope this project will enable NIMASA reinforce their
operation and services for coastal security of Nigeria, strengthen Nigeria’s counterpiracy efforts, involve the acquisition of assets, and believe that this assistance will be very useful for the security of the Gulf of Guinea.
The signing ceremony will be held as at Conference Room of the Honourable Minister of State, 5th Floor, Federal Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Central Business District, Abuja, F.C.T.
