Bauchi NUJ moves to sanitize media practice, organizes training for members

Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union Journalists (NUJ) has reiterated its commitment to continuous training of working journalists in the state towards ensuring professionalism in practice.
The disclosure was made by Council Chairman, Comrade Umar Sa’idu at the opening of a one-day training for members of the State Executive Committee (SEC) and the State Working Committee held at Press Center, Bauchi.
Umar Sa’idu said that the training was to update their knowledge in order to meet the current waves of promoting peaceful coexistence through adherence with ethics and values of journalism as a profession.
In his submission, the National Secretary of the NUJ, Comrade Shuaibu Usman Leman described the move as a step in the right direction considering the trend of events whereby quacks are taking over the practice.

He said that journalists deserve regular training to enable them serve public with facts, balance and accurate information towards promotion of peaceful coexistence in the society.
Shuaibu Leman who said that the society relied on journalists on daily happenings around the world, maintained that the NUJ will continue to discourage manufacturing of fake news and hate speeches to protect the integrity of the pen profession.
While declaring the workshop opened, Bauchi State Head of Civil Service, Alh. Yahuza Adamu Haruna represented by the Permanent Secretary, Establishment and ServiCom Bureau, Barr. Sani Umar assured of government determination to include Journalists in the routine Civil Service training.
He commended the NUJ for complementing effort of the State Government in maintenance of peace and Unity and called for sustenance of the spirit
The workshop with the theme: ‘Role of journalists in maintaining peaceful coexistence’ had participants from across all the eleven chapels of the State NUJ.
