Governor Umahi set to establish drug management agency in Ebonyi

The governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi yesterday said that his administration has set marcinaries in motion towards establishing Drug Management Agency in the state.
The agency is targeted at enhancing health status of indigenes of the state.
To this end, the State Executive Council has earlier sent to the State House of Assembly a bill to establish the Agency.
The state governnor disclosed this at the old government house, Abakiliki when he received United States Agency for International Development USAID Health Population and Nutrition office Nigeria led by the Director, Mr Paul McDermott.
USAID is one of the biggest donors currently supporting the State with about 10 different activities and programmes essentially in the area of rural healthcare.
These include: Integrated Health Program; Global Health Supply Chain- procurement state 2 states among others.
“According to the Umahi, “On assumption of office we ensured the establishment of Primary Health Centres in the one hundred and seventy one wards were people could get first aid before seeking further attention from secondary facilities.
“In the area of establishing Drug Management Agency in the state, we have sent a bill to the state house of Assembly and in the nearest week that bill will scare through and ready”, he explained.
The Governor told USAID team that the state has made maximum use of assistance they have so far received from them.
Umahi was represented by the Deputy Governor Dr Kelechi Igwe.
Earlier, the team leader, Mr McDermott told the state government to improve staffing of health workers across the various healthcare centres in the state.
McDermott however expressed satisfaction that USAID would continue to work closely with the State to improve the health and lives of the people.
He said the USAID team is interested in finding out the challenges and progress of Covid-19 vaccination as well as to review implementation of the on going programmes and activities in the state.
