A support group, Peter Obi Movement for President, (POMP) has embarked on domestication of its sensitization campaign to galvanize support for Labour Party Presidential candidate, Peter Obi/Yusuf Datti. POMP said it is massively opening offices at ward level across country so as to bring the people closer to party.
Dedicating one of such offices for Orozo ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council, (AMAC), Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) at the weekend, Eyisi Okey Nwoke, National Chairman/National Coordinator of POMP stated that, it is politically and electorally strategic to establish support base at the grassroots since voting takes place at the pooling units. He described it as practical politics.
Nwoke explained that since all politics are local, domesticating support mobilization will help the group have access to the masses to market their candidate better. He added that having established its presence across the country, the support group through state coordinators is massively opening offices at ward level for better mobilization.
He argued that, as a support group, the paramount interest is also to strengthen party structure to win elections.
“We are conscious of where the votes comes from. There is no vote at the national level. There is no vote at the states or local government levels. Politics is local. The votes comes from the ward-pooling units. That is why we are moving activities to the people. Opening offices at the grassroots is more strategic than having offices at the city center” he pointed out.
According to Nwoke all offices at the ward level will give access to the people regarding activities of the party and the group, which makes it easier to mobilize, and also bring Obi’s message to the people. He reinstated Obi’s track record as governor of Anambra which he believes Nigeria will be transformed if he is elected.
On the POMP’s Orozo office, the National Coordinator said he is confidence it will mobilize from Karshi to Nyanya, effectively.
Party faithful and other support groups who attended the unveiling assured electorates of their readiness to defend Obi’s mandate by making votes count.
