Rep. Lar: An Epitome of True People’s Representative

Satisfied with the performance of the member representing Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Beni Lar, her constituents have demonstrated their unwavering support and commitment to return her to the Green Chamber in 2023 general elections as a way of rewarding her for the excellent representation in the House.
In the recently concluded People’s Democratic Party (PDP) primary election for Langtang North/Langtang South Federal Constituency, Honourable Lar clinched the party’s ticket in a landslide victory.
Her victory did not come as a surprise to many going by her track record of performance on the floor of the House of Representatives as well as the myriad of dividends of democracy she successfully attracted to her constituency.
Lar’s legislative prowess is not in doubt even to her opponents as it is on record that she has sponsored and moved myraid of bills and motions on the floor of the House. It is an uncontestable fact that she has successfully secured gainful employments for several of her constituents in various MDAs, military and para-military outfits. These individuals will forever remained grateful to her for using the mandate given her to secured gainful employments for them.
Unarguably, Lar’s representation has been very rewarding, thus far and it can only continue to get better and better in line with her slogan, “The Best is Yet to Come and together we will strive to achieve more”. This depicts the strong conviction of Honourable Lar’s commitment and resilience to relentlessly work together with her constituents in order to attract more dividends of democracy to the constituency.


Against all odds, Honourable Lar’s resilience and commitment to serve her constituents rather than being served has resulted in the socio-economic emancipation of her constituents. She enjoyed unalloyed support and encouragement from constituents, particularly those who are pleased with her quality, effective and efficient representation thus far.
It was in recognition and appreciation of her impactful representation and service to humanity that the traditional councils of some communities in her constituency bestowed on her different traditional titles to further encourage her to do more for her constituency. Some of these titles are; Izhar Ocha Kumbwang, Sarauniya Kwallak and Sarauniya Luktuk among other titles. These titles are exclusively reserved for women who distinguished themselves in the society. Honourable Lar has been found worthy of such honorific reseved titles by the traditional rulers of Kumbwang, Kwallak and Luktak communities in Tarok land.
In addition to the honorific traditional titles bestowed on Honourable Lar, she is equally a recepient of myraid of both internationally, national and local awards. The awards came from reputable associations, groups, unions, youths, women, professional bodies and religious organisations in recognition of her effective and Impactful representation in the House. Few of such awards came from the Jos University Teaching Hospital, Association of Resident Doctors, Plateau 2022 Voice of Impact, the Joint Action Congress of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, comprising of the Academic Staff Union of Research Institution, NASU and Senior Staff Association of Universities Teaching Hospitals, Research Institutes and Associated Institutions bestowed on her awards as the Best Lawmaker, the Most Impactful Lawmaker, the Legislator of the Year and Outstanding Legislator’s Award.
Also, she bagged the merit award of a Parliamentarian per excellence courtesy the Arewa Youth Development Forum, Women Right Advocate Award by the Daughters of Zion Foundation, Youth Ambassador for Peace Award by Universal Peace Federation and Youth Federation for World Peace, Women of Gold Award, Ghana 2009 by Evergreen Progressive Development Foundation of Africa. Others are the National Certificate of Credence by Kogi State Youth Parliament in collaboration with Nigeria Vision 2020: Youth Volunteers Service Group, Distinguished Honours Award on her appointment as Special Assistant to the President on Women Affairs (2003) by Plateau State Indigenes Development Association, Abuja Chapter, Best Female Grassroots Soccer Promoter in Nigeria by Grassroots Sport Federal Headquarters-Abuja, Certificate of Legislative Excellence 2009 Award Media Events (AME) by Organisation of Media Merit Award for Legislative Excellence, Award of Excellence by MAARDEC in recognition of her various contributions towards empowerment of Persons with Disabilities in Nigeria presented.
Indeed, these awards were bestowed on the lawmaker by the various organisations, associations and professional bodies as a result of her effective and impactful representation in the Green Chamber and service to humanity.
Interestingly, Lar’s legislative competence knows no bounds as the results of her impactful representation are visibly spread across the length and breadth of Langtang North, Langtang South and Plateau State at large. As the Chairperson, House Committee on Science and Technology, Honourable Lar has successfully influenced the establishment of the North Central offices of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NSRDA), National Research Institute for Chemical Technology (NRICT), National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) centre, Federal Institute of Industrial Research, National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA) centre, NBRRI’s Skills acquisition Centre and NBTI’s Centre domiciled in her constituency. She has also influenced the establishment of Nigerian Institute of Leather and Science Technology (NILEST) and Nigeria Natural Medicine Development Agency (NNMDA) Zonal Centres all in Jos, Plateau State.
These agencies have provided employment and training opportunities for her constituents which have greatly helped in sharpening the skills of women and youths as well fast track the development of Langtang North and Langtang South L.G.As.
In furtherance of her commitment to impact her constituency positively, Hon. Lar, as an experienced legislator rallied round her colleagues in the House and secured the approval for the establishment of a Federal University of Agriculture in Gangnim, Langtang South LGA. Currently, the bill is before the Senate awaiting affirmation and when finally passed into law and the University becomes fully operational, it will further create more job opportunities for her constituents and the state at large. It will also afford her constituents the opportunity to acquire University education.
To further demonstrate her commitment to the educational upliftment of her constituents, the lawmaker during the 2022 edition of Ilum O’Tarok annual cultural festival donated a wooping sum of Ten Million to the Ngwang Ishi O’Tarok (NIO) to set-up a Scholarship Trust Fund to assist indigent students in their academic pursuit.
Honourable Lar has constructed over countless number of block of classrooms, furnished them with modern teaching and learning facilities as well as VIP toilets in most of the schools.
Believing that a healthy society is a wealthy society, Honourable Lar has hugely intervened in the health sector by embarking on construction of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and equipping them with medical equipment, furniture and stocking them with drugs for the health benefits of her constituents.
To further demonstrate her commitment to empower her constituents, Honourable Lar secured grants running into millions of naira through the British High Commission to assist farmers which has since been disbursed to the beneficiaries. She has equally donated several water pumps, fertilizer and other farm implements to promote food security and sufficiency in her constituency. She has equally trained thousands of her constituents in collaboration with the Industrial Training Fund on various skills acquisition in the areas of phone repairs, carpentry, windows making, welding, hair dressing, cake and soap making among others. Today, the beneficiaries are not only self-reliant but employers of labour. The Lawmaker’s intervention in human empowerment has helped to curb youth unemployment and restiveness in the constituency and beyond.
Demonstrating further her commitment towards boosting the economic status of her constituents, Honourable Lar recently moved a motion of urgent public importance titled: “Need to Rehabilitate the Collapsed Kanke-Langtang Road,” on the floor of the House seeking the approval of the House to mandate the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to rehabilitate the road, which the House did not only approved but expanded the motion to accommodate Wase LGA and mandated FERMA to immediately commence the rehabilitation work on Kanke-Langtang-Wase road.
Also, the lawmaker facilitated through the Nigeria Building and Road Research institute under the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, the construction of a 20 kilometer rural access roads with culverts and bridges in Pangna-Takfa-Gwandamung-Kongkong , Kwallak, Gasham-PilGani, Mabudi-Lokang, Talbut-Shiber, Kwanpe-Tunkun, Kangkur-Limun-Nwur, Gabong, Timman-Timbol in communities within her constituency. The roads are at various stages of completion.
Determined to address the problem of lack of portable drinking water, the lawmaker has constructed dams in Mabudi, Langtang South, Faya, Warok, Pishe/yashi, Fajul Dam, Pangna Jidadi and Dadur communities. She has also provided support for the construction of Water Treatment Plant in Kwaikong community. This is aside the construction of Lohkan and Jemkur and Barrack Boar in Langtang North and South LGAs. She has also provided almost 500 motorized and hand pump boreholes across communities in her constituency.
Lar has equally intervened in the area of power supply to the level that virtually all the communities in her constituency are now connected with either electricity or solar lights. For instance, she embarked and completed the rural electrification in Kwallak Tabut Kogi, Nassarawa, Lazhan, Longbap, Kangtang and Zamko/Talbut communities. Also, she has provided transformers to Sabon-Layi, Shapir Keller, Pil-Gani, Kangtang, Nassarawa, Mabudi, Sabongida, Langbap, Lazhan, Kapshe and Tabat Kogi communities. Almost all communities within her constituency are currently enjoying solar street lights.
No doubt, with the support of all her constituents, the best of Honourable Lar is yet to come and she would continue to strive to achieve more for the benefits of her constituents.
