Members of Community green Vanguards charged to step down knowledge on tree planting, protection to the grassroots

Members of the Community Green Vanguards (CGV) have been called to take the knowledge acquired during a two days Workshop to the grassroot.
The call was made by the Director General BASEPA Dr Ibrahim Kabir during the closing of a two day workshop organized by the African Development Bank, under IBSLEID for Community Green Vanguards who were drawn from the 20 local government areas of the state.
The DG who is also the Chairman of the Afforestation Committee of the African Development Bank project said that, the training on Raising and protection of trees/seedlings have become necessary which aimed at educating members of the Vanguard which also form part of the processes of establishing Plant Nursery plantations in the benefitting local governments for easy access of seedlings to the rural population.
Ibrahim Kabir also charged the participants to practice what they learned and engaged any relevant stakeholder(s) in their localities calling on them to consider the exercise as a sacrifice towards restoring our degraded land/ environment through massive afforestation exercise to achieve the target objectives.
According to him, planting of trees solved almost all the environmental challenges such as water flooding, soil erosion, climate change and global warming among others.
In a paper titled, ‘The strategies of plant protection and conservation in the tropical Africa’, Professor Isah Mohammed of the Abubakar Tafawa University said that seedling or tree has three stages of life span and requires a special care and protection to developed and stand the chance of survival.
The paper which described protection as a means of findings, identification, follow up, impediment, spread eradicate or destruction of harmful organisms to plant and other objects through the implementation of phyto-sanitary measure of plant.
The paper also described seedlings as delicate that is susceptible to attack by various pests and diseases as well as weather conditions such can seriously weaken or kill the seedlings, thus, it is important that damages be dealt with immediately, through various control measures such as physical, chemical and cultural as well as biological, supervise and legislative control among others.
The African Development Bank Focal Officer of the Project, Mallam Ibrahim Isyaku Giade said that, the workshop was organized to equip and build the capacity of the members of the Community Green Vanguards with the requisite information and knowledge necessary for handlers of the proposed plant nursery plantations to be established in the selected LGAs.
He also charged them to heed to the call made the Director General on the knowledge acquired and assured them that the Bank consider them as ambassadors at their respective local government and will continue to engage them towards achieving the desired objectives.
Participants expressed satisfaction with the training and promised to take down the knowledge acquired to the grassroot through very many initiative added that they are ever ready to support the program in whatever capacity for the protection of the environment.
