Members of He4She, women mediators, state action plan committee urged to intensify mobilization, support women participation in peace, security

Members of He4She Network, Women Mediators and State Action Plan committee in Bauchi state have been urged to continue with the good work they have been doing so far in the area of mobilization and support to women for effective participation in peace and security issues. 

The call was made by the National Programme Officer, Women Peace and Security (WPS) UN Women, Ms Olubukola Ademola-Adelehin at the end a 3 day workshop on Women Peace and Security in Nigeria organized by UN Women. 

She assured that the UN Women will surely support the various organizations technically in achieving the goal and objectives of the program.

The workshop ended with a closing remark by the UN Women Program officer who thanked the participants for the patriotism exhibited towards ensuring that women fully participate in politics/leadership, peace and security issues. 

The aims and objectives of the workshop was to realize a more peaceful and gender equal society by creating an enabling environment for the implementations of internationally agreed commitments. 

These can be achieved through policy intervention and capacity building support to women in line with the provisions of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCRS)1325 on Women, Peace and Security (WPS). 

The phase 2 program on women, peace and security in Nigeria is a 3 year initiative from 2022 to 2024 which will include women leadership and political participation, particularly in relation to peace and security concerns which was also presented at the workshop by the UN Women Program Officer.

During the workshop, there was brief presentation on He4She Network Champion progressive activity report which was carried out by the He4She Network. 

Bauchi State Coordinator of the Network, John Jinjiri revealed that all the programmes were successfully carried out by the network including advocacy and awareness creation on Women, peace and security (WPS) to various Media houses and airing of radio programmes. 

There was also advocacy to the Bauchi State House of Assembly where the Speaker, Abubakar Y Suleiman was made the Champion, religious bodies, community leaders and other relevant stakeholders.

There was also presentation on documentation, monitoring and evaluation to enable the Networks have an effective implementation of their terms of reference as was presented by the UN Women Programme Officer.

At the end of the workshop with He4She Network Champion, group work on emerging issues on women, peace and security in Bauchi State, SWOT analysis of the He4She network were presented by two groups, after which action plan was also developed for the period of one year to enable the network carry out their activities effectively. 

The workshop also discussed issues of WPS in Nigeria with State Action Plan Committee (SAP) as well as with women mediators network with the aim of making them more effective as contained in a report by Joel Timothy, Assistant Secretary, He4She network Bauchi State.
