2023: NUJ plans refresher courses for journalists

Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Cross River State is planning to conduct Refresher Courses for journalists in the state as general elections approaches.
Chairman of NUJ, Gill Nsa-Abasi disclosed this Friday morning over Sparkling FM radio talk show, Let’s Talk Nigeria.
The chairman explained that the courses will enable journalists in the state to be reminded of the professional ethics and need to maintain neutrality.
According to him, he noted that every election period comes with different challenges.
He maintained that reporters must be keep abreast political developments through trainings
He stressed the importance of journalists maintaining credibility.
Gill cautioned journalists not to be politically partisan.
He has advised such journalists to resign their appointments from their current employers and rather go into media consultancy for political parties.
Gill explained that practising journalists should perform their professional duties objectively and fairly.
‘Journalists in Cross River State who work for different news outlets must cover all political parties objectively and fairly, and should never favour any particular party, even though I realise that every human is a political animal.
“Journalists who want to be partisan should resign and go into media consultancy.
“There must be good coverage to upcoming elections next year. “
Gill, a reporter with NArion newspaper was elected NUJ chairman in July 2022 disclosed that they will hold Thanksgiving service on Sunday and journalists get-together.
