Adamawa pensioners receive N1.3bn out of backlog of N40bn

The Adamawa state pensioners have exprssed dissatisfaction over the backlog of about N40 bilion only a neglegable payment of N1.3 bilion released to the beneficiaries in the state.
Some of the pensoners who spoke under anonymity said they thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his human face he is addressing this pension issue that, if it were done in the past by various government, by now it would have things of the past.
The pensioners made made this known when the state government has released the sum of N1.3 billion out of N40 bilion, the chairman of the Nigeria union of pensioners Adamawa state chapter, Comrade Samson Almuru during the ongoing payments at stakeholder meeting in Yola.
The chairman accordingly said the amount released was to cover only those who retired from January 2013 to May 2013 in the state civil service, which include local government. pensioners.
He applauded the efforts of the Governor who graciously released the sums of 1.3 billion Naira for the continued payments of outstanding backlog of gratuities of the state pensioners.
The chairman of the Nigerian Union of pensioners, Adamawa state chapter, Comrade Samson Almuru made this known during a stakeholders meeting in Yola.
Comrade Almuru Accordingly said, the amount released was to cover only those retired from January 2013 to May 2013 in the state service, excluding the local government pensioners.
He however, urged the Governor to kindly look into the conditions of local government pensioners, as their situation is even more critical than their state counterparts.
The state chairman alao noted that, the conditions of pensioners in the state is always deteriorating due to non payments of their gratuities, despite old age, health problems and non harmonisation of pension.
The Union through the chairman, appreciated the Governor for the immediate integration and captured of local government retirees into pension pay roll.
He also commended the efforts of the state pension board chairman Mr Thomas T Madi, for carrying the leadership of the Union in all his dealings.
One of the pensioner Balla Chiroma, expressed annoyance on the amount, “where he described it as very negligible, considering the backlog of about N40 billion.
The entire pensioners have been urged to exercise patience, as their entitlement will soon be settled by the government.
