The wife of Taraba State Governor, Anna Darius Ishaku has advocated creation of International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) clinic in the state.
The Governor’s wife said this an event marking FIDA week in Jalingo.
Anna remarked that if created the FIDA clinic will entertain complaint by Women and children as well as offer legal advices and service to the less privilege.
She described the theme of the FIDA week Guaranteeing Equal Access to Justice for Women in Nigeria as apt.
Anna said though access to justice in Nigeria is marred by many factors among which over congestion of court, encouraged Female lawyers not to relent in fighting for the right of women and children in the society.
In her presentation on “Access to Gender Justice in Nigeria:The role of the Bar”, Dean Faculty of Law, Taraba State University, Jalingo Professor Benedicta Daudu said access to justice is the baseline for the enjoyment of rights.
Professor Benedicta Daudu lamented that women and children still struggles to access Education, health, and Justice.
She enumerated challenges hindering access to justice in Nigeria-to include Financial and Economic empowerment, access to land and other productive resources, education, political participation and decision making.
The resource person said the lawyers will be doing incalculable harm to the profession if they do not stand up against abuses and gender injustices against women.
She said lawyers should be seen to promote , advocate for and defend the rights of the vulnerable categories of women and children, protect them against injustice.
Earlier, the Chairperson International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Taraba State Chapter, Fxafa Hosea Ibi said the FIDA week is organised to reawaken consciousness of women lawyers and women on the need to stand up for rights of the vulnerable in the society.
