Alhaji Isyaku Ibrahim, a frontline politician has disclosed why he rejected the nomination to receive national honour award on his own voalition.

He said in Abuja that, he voluntarily rejected the offer that was offered to him for his numerous exemplary services to the country before and after independence.

According to the elder statesman, “Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd), who is the Chairman, standing committee on National Honours Award and my younger brother came to my house and informed me that I have been nominated to be one of the recipients of the award.

“I told him that I am happy with his visit and respect for the nomination, but that I reject the offer for the nomination of the award.

” I once asked my political mentor, Malam Aminu Kano of blessed memory why he did not recieve national honour’s award, he said that he is happy with the name Mallam, which literally means Teacher, because it was earned, he has taught many people knowledge and character,” said Alhaji Ibrahim.

One of the milestone contributions of Alhaji Ibrahim to the enthronement of democracy is he lobbied the then Military Adminiatration of General Murtala Ramat Mohammed to adopt the American Presidential system of government in Nigeria, which replaced the British parliamentary system.

The 84-year-old is a politician and chieftain of the defunct National Party of Nigeria, (NPN), a businessman and a philanthropist who has personally sponsored Mighty Jets Football Club of Jos for years to international tours and championships.

It could be recalled that President Muhammadu Buhari appointed the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd), as the Chairman, standing committee on National Honours Award from August 9, 2021 for a period of four years.
The National Honours Award Committee is saddled with the responsibilities of assisting the president in discharging his responsibilities in identifying and conferring on deserving Nigerians and friends of Nigeria with National Honours as provided in the National Honours Act Cap No.43 of the laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004
