We need more hostels, Nasarawa State University VC cries out

The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), Professor Suleiman Bala Mohammed has made a passionate for the provision of more hostels for its students.
He said since the establishment of the university 21 years ago, only less than 20 per cent of students have been accommodated in hostels with the rest living off-campus.
The Vice Chancellor made the remarks at the official inauguration of the new Senate building on Monday. Other projects commissioned were the Central workshop, Faculty of Engineering, Gudi Campus and WHO/Iniklinikum Institute of Molecular Diagnostics and Infections Disease Control, Keffi Centre.
He noted that the university is in dire need of hostels appealing for invention by TetFund in the area as well as the fencing of the campus to provide security for staff, students and learning facilities.
According to him, interventions in these areas will significantly reduce the exposure of students to heightened insecurity outside the campus.
The Vice Chancellor gave an insight into the features of the Senate building which was funded under the TetFund Special High Impact Project Intervention. The features are 21 en suite offices, 100 single offices, 42 shared public toilets, 6 kitchenettes, 1 Senate with 250 sitting capacity, 1 Council chamber with 40 sitting capacity, 3 conference rooms and 1 committee room.
The Engineering workshops at Gudi campus has five compact halls, four en suite offices, 12 single offices, seven store rooms and 18 toilets.
Professor Mohammed also praised the Executive Director/CEO of National Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Faisal Shuib for providing funds for the remodeling of the WHO/Iniklinikum Institute of Molecular Diagnostics and Infections Disease Control building.

The Vice Chancellor commended the contractor who handled the Senate building, UYK Nigeria Limited for a high sense of professionalism and responsibility.
According to him, he kept his workers consistently and steadfastly on site from the commencement till its completion and has demonstrated that he is a leading player in the transformation of the construction industry in Nigeria.
In his speech, the Executive Secretary, TetFund, Architect Sonny Echono said about 273 similar projects are set for commissioning nation-wide.
He said from 2011 to 2020, Nasarawa State University has benefited from projects worth N10billion and one of the institutions that have accessed 80 per cent of funds.
