The opposition PDP in Cross River State has claimed that they have outstanding records of achieving any given projects they set out to accomplish compared with the ruling APC.
Chairman of PDP in the state, Venatius Ikem reacted to the remarks by one Chief Peter Higgins, a one-time Vice Chairman, Debt Review and Projects Development Commission in the State, where he berated Senator Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe (PDP), representing Cross River North in the Senate.
Higgins had described Jarigbe’s moves to rehabilitate the 27km Yahe-Wanokom Wanikade Wanihem road in Yala LGA road project as deceit to the Ukelle people of the state.
“As an individual who is conversant with issues relating to road construction, I don’t think Senator Jarigbe has the resources to execute the 27kms road project in Yala.”
In an interview, Ikem asked, “He spoke as who? In what capacity?
“PDP, and indeed, Senator Jarigbe has a record of achieving projects while APC, personified in Governor Ayade has a record of abandoning projects including the road in issue.
“This is the reason our Senator has stepped in to salvage the situation for the good of our state and for the Ukelle people in particular.
“You cannot compare light and darkness.
“Senator Jarigbe has commenced work on the said road and the entire community have seen it. They are applauding it.”
The 27km road leads to Benue State but it has been a major source of distress to the Yala people because of it’s dilapidated state over time.
The area is one of the highest producers of tubers of yam, cassava and other farm yields but its poor infrastructure has made farmers produce at a loss because of difficulties in accessing markets.
