Members of Sports Writers Association (SWAN) in Cross River State in partnership with heads of federal establishments in the state have held a fitness walk in the Calabar.

The 5 kilometre walk kicked off at 6.30 in the morning from the popular Millennium Park in Calabar and terminated at the Federal Secretariat Calabar.

Chairman of SWAN in the state, Mike Abang of BusinessDay newspaper said the partnership was necessary for mutual relationship.

He emphasised the importance of the fitness walk, saying the essence was to remind both the sports writees and the federal executives to regularly keep fit, and not all the time bury themselves in work all year round.

“Our jobs are demanding and stressful. We should not lose sight of also sparing time to exercise for health reasons”, he said.

Speaking similarly, Mr Sam Nsor, General manager of Canaan FM who is the coordinating chair of Association of heads of Federal Establishments in the state, said they want to make the fitness exercise a regular event to enable them keep fit.

“We encourage all to endeavour to exercise frequently whether by way of walking or dancing.

“We realise that walking a long distance, for instance, has a way of releasing stored weight and burning unwanted fats.

“We hope that we can organise this very regularly in view of its many advantages”, Nsor disclosed.
