Bauchi Assembly confirms 2 female Commissioner nominees, commends Governor Mohammed for being gender sensitive

Bauchi State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed the nomination of two Women as Commissioners to increase the number of Women Commissioners in the State Executive Council (SEC) to 7.
The Commissioners designate are Hajiya Amina Mohammed Katagum from Zaki LGA and Jamila Muhammad Dahiru from Toro Local Government.
The Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman had at the commencement of plenary announced that the House was ready to screen the two nominees as requested by the Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad directing the first nominee, Hajiya Amina Muhammad Katagum from Zaki Local Government to be ushered into the Chamber for screening.
The Speaker asked Hajiya Amina Muhammad Katagum some constitutional questions and she responded to the satisfaction of the House.
Hon. Gazali Abubakar representing Ganjuwa East Constituency commended the Governor for nominating more women as commissioners sayong that having 7 female Commissioners showed that the Governor is a Champion of gender equality.
He congratulated the nominee and advised her to update her CV with current information.
Majority Leader, Hon. Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu representing Azare/Madangala Constituency appreciated the nomination of Amina Katagum to be once again in the Executive council of Bauchi State.
He wished her all the best and suggested that since she is a woman and in the tradition of the House, women are not subjected to questions, thus the member from her Local Government should be allowed to comment and thereafter allow her to take bow and leave.

Hon. Muhammad Wanzam representing Sakwa Constituency extended his gratitude to the House for extending the special privilege to all women nominees.
He thanked Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammad for realizing 30% women appointees in his cabinet.
He added that the nominee is a hardworking and committed person in any responsibility that would be given to her and said that this is the second time she is coming to the House for screening as Commissioner .
He therefore seconded that she should be allowed to take a bow and go which the Members unanimously approved the motion and she was asked to take bow and go.
The last nominee for screening was Jamila Muhammad Dahiru from Toro Local Government who was ushered into the Chamber for the screening.
The Speaker asked Jamila Muhammad Dahiru some constitutional questions and she responded to the satisfaction of the House.
The Speaker explained that considering the tradition of the House of giving women nominees privilege of not being subjected to many questions, a Member from her Local Government should make a comment, before she is allowed to take bow and go.
Hon. Baballe Abubakar Dambam representing Dambam/Jalam/Dagauda Constituency said that “going by your CV, you are 37 years old but your CV shows you have more than 40 years experience? For the purpose of clarity the dates in which you gained the experiences should be included.”
The nominee explained that she is a lecturer and as a lecturer she is entitled to working as consultant. Thus as a lecturer she works as consultants with various organizations and is currently on secondment with USAID.
Majority Leader, Hon. Tijjani Muhammad Aliyu said that the CV of the nominee is very rich and advised her to use the experience in the development of Bauchi State.
Deputy Speaker, Hon. Danlami Ahmed Kawule requested that the nominee should be allowed take bow and go after a member from her Local Government made a comment.
Hon. Bala Abdu Rishi representing Lame Constituency commended the House for being gender sensitive and said that by seeing the CV of the nominee, the young lady is equal to the task and she deserves the appointment.
He therefore seconded that she should take bow and go, after the House approved, she was asked to take bow and go.
The House then dissolved to Committee of a whole to confirm the nominees and after the House returned to plenary, the Speaker announced that the House has unanimously confirmed Amina Muhammad Katagum from Zaki Local Government and Jamila Muhammad Dahiru from Toro Local Government as commissioners and members of the Bauchi State Executive Council.
Also during plenary, Report of the House Committee on Appropriation on a Bill for a Law to regulate the preparation, presentation, enactment, implementation and oversight of the budget process and other related matters, was laid by the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Abdulkadir Umar Dewu representing Kirfi Constituency.
The Committee explained that the main purpose of the Bill is to get things rightly especially with budget process in the State stating that it had sought and received inputs from relevant stakeholders and made comparison with relevant laws of the State.
The Committee therefore recommended that the House should pass the Bill into Law.
Chairman House Committee on Appropriation, Hon. Abdulkadir Umar Dewu requested the House to allow a Bill for a Law to regulate the preparation, presentation, enactment, implementation and oversight of the budget process and other related matters and he was seconded by Hon. Babayo Muhammad representing Hardawa Constituency.
Upon approval by the Members, the Speaker directed the Deputy Clerk of the House Lamara Abdu Chinade to carryout the 3rd reading and he Bill was therefore passed into law.
