By our reporter

A socio – cultural group, Ito Unity Forum, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba as a matter of urgency to intervene in the withdrawal of personel from Obi Local Government Area of Benue state for the pass 10 months.

The forum made the appeal in a Communique signed and made available to newsmen on Monday
by its President, Comrade Patrick Ihuma at the end of her annual convention held in Obi Local Government.

According to the Communique, incessant attack, kidnapping and killings being experienced in Obi Local Government in the last 10 months is due to the withdrawal of police from the local government by the Benue State Police Command.

It recalls that the only police station in the entire Obi Local Government Area was burnt down in March, 2022 by aggrieved community youths over the killing of their daughter when the killer was taken into custody to pave way for investigation.

The Forum condemned in strongest terms the quick resort to anarchism and anger syndrome by some unscrupulous youths, while calling on them to eschew anything that is capable of undermining the peace, unity and development of Obi Local Government.

“The Forum therefore called on IGP, Usman Alkali Baba, Benue state Police Command under the CP Wale Abass to expedite action in bringing back its personnel to secure lives and property in the local government.

“The forum also called on the state government and the Obi LGA in ensuring timely completion of the rebuilding burnt Police station or provide an alternative office building to be used temporarily to strengthen security situation in the area,” the communique read.

The forum also called on the federal government to urgently rehabilitate Otukpo – Obarike – Ito – Oju road, noting that kidnappers and armed robbers had taken advantage of the dilapidated nature of the road to unleash mayhem on innocent road users.

It also resolved to create awareness on the need for collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) to enable electorates to votes their preferred candidates, even as it warned against vote buying, thuggery and violence.
